New Orleans Market Mahogany Armoire, Attributed to the Warerooms of Prudent Mallard

third quarter 19th century, the beaded, molded cornice over a single mirrored door framed by cyma moldings, the corners with spiral-reeded pilasters, the interior with four shelves, one supporting a medial drawer, on a base with a cyma-molded drawer, raised on characteristic bracket feet with scroll moldings.
h. 102", w. 52-3/4", d. 23-1/4"

  • Condition: **In overall very good condition, retaining good, deep color in what appears to be a polished old, presumably original, finish.

The case is sturdy and solid.

There is shrinkage, wear, scrapes and dings, most notably around the perimeter frame of the door, including a splinter loss about 5" long and 1/4" deep, rounding out to the interior of the key escutcheon.

    Lock is present; no key.

The silvering of what appears to be the original mirror exhibits considerable fogging and imperfections. The interior retains four shelves, apparently original, one of which supports a drawer. If there were decorative brackets flanking the drawer, they are absent.

The applied S-scrolls on the feet are missing ends from two, and the entire S-scroll is missing from one.
