Newcomb College Art Pottery Trivet

1931, decorated by Sadie Irvine with curvilinear design in low relief in yellow, green and blue underglaze, base marked with Newcomb cipher, decorator's mark, Jonathan Browne Hunt potter's mark, and remnants of Newcomb label, dia. 5-3/4"; together with Jessie Poesch's book, Newcomb Pottery & Crafts..., Atglen, PA: Schiffer Publishing, 2003, and Mary Cable's book on architecture, Lost New Orleans, Boston: Houghton Mifflin, 1980.


Provenance: Estate of Richard Anthony Goula, proceeds to benefit the Thistlewood Foundation, Lafayette, Louisiana.


  • Condition: **In overall very good condition with no visible losses, cracks or repairs. Bottom of trivet exhibits some minor scuffs and soiling, which are as to be expected with age and use. Newcomb book is in very good condition; the lower part of the front cover has some light watermarks and creasing. The other book is also in good condition with 1/2" tear to the top of book cover and some light accretions to the top edge.
