Northern Italian Oak and Fruitwood Secretary, late 18th century, the molded broken swan's-neck pediment above two arched doors, each banded and with a parquetry panel, the lower section fitted with a like parquetry panel and opening to a central cupboard flanked to either side by a band of three short drawers over three long serpentine drawers, raised on shaped bracket feet, h. 92", w. 45", d. 22-1/2".


  • Condition: In very good refinished and restored condition. The piece exhibits shrinkage, wear, some professional-quality past restorations including veneer replacements, and other indications of age and use. Tight and very solid. There is a finish abrasion/loss on the false style of an upper door next to the escutcheon. A key is present and works on both the upper section and the slant lid. There is a shrinkage split on the side of the case adjoining the slant lid section. That crack is partially filled. The interior center drawer in the desk section is detached at one pin hinge. One brass bail is missing. A smaller replacement is present but detached. The rail between the two lowermost drawers is loose at one end.
