Northern Italian Walnut and Mahogany Secretary, late 18th century, the upper section with a pierced gallery with urn finial accents, above a central cupboard featuring an inlaid classical warrior, flanked to either side by a bank of five small drawers, all with various avian inlays, the lower section fitted with a slant front, inlaid with a hunting scene and opening to a baize-lined interior and four small drawers, over three long concave paneled drawers, all with avian- and floral-inlaid patterns, raised on bun feet, the whole with ebonized accents, h. 69", w. 46", d. 28".


  • Condition: In "as found" condition with some old restorations. The base has vertical shrinkage cracks - one on each side due to age. Dings along the base molding and scuffs to the overhang deck of the base from use. Small loss to the inlaid desk lid - now has filler added. Bottom drawer has left knob missing. Interior drawers of the desk portion with some edge chips. The central door of the upper case has a vertical shrinkage crack and a glued repair to the veneer just left of the key plate. The right front gallery has some damage and small loss.
