Old Sheffield Plate Wine Cooler

first quarter 19th century, of campana form, the lower half gadrooned, with Bacchic masque-mounted reeded handles and raised on three haunched lion's-paw-and-ball feet, with detachable collar and liner, engraved on the body with the arms of Blackett quartering Douglas and impaling Keene.

Notes: The arms here are those of Sir William Blackett, 5th Bart. (1759-1816) of Matfen Hall, Matfen, Northumberland, the son of Sir Edward Blackett and Anne Douglas, and his wife Mary Anne Keene (ca. 1781-1859), daughter of Benjamin Keene, D.D. The couple were married on August 6, 1801 at St. George's, Hanover Square in London.


  • Condition: **In very good condition. Very minimal wear to the silvering. The interior liner intact with minor dings and imperfections from age and use.
