Pair of American Sterling Silver and Cut Glass Fruit Stands

mid-20th century, by Gebelein Silversmiths, Boston, Massachusetts, in the Georgian taste, each with an oval wirework receptacle above a conforming molded frame raised on three lion's paw-footed flat column legs joined by concave molded stretchers, fitted with a shallow diamond-cut glass bowl with scalloped rim and starburst base.
overall h. 8-1/4", l. 8-3/4", w. 6-3/8"; 56.42 total t. oz. (silver frames only)

  • Condition: **In overall good condition with no dents or breaks noted, though the wirework baskets are slightly misshapen in places. The frames show visible solder joins throughout, probably part of the original hand construction, but possibly indicative of re-fashioning from an earlier form. Each frame marked (on the inside of separate feet) "Gebelein", "Boston" and "Sterling". Cut glass bowls fit firmly and conformingly in the frames; both have a network of moderate scratches on the underside, and some scattered nicks and frits throughout with one shallow 1/4" on the scallop of one, but no cracks or large chips noted.
