Pair of Antique Marble Ionic Pilaster Capitals

19th century or earlier, now mounted as lamps, the marble capitals on fluted bases, now in contemporary black metal mounts.
overall h. 29-3/4", w. 18-1/2", d. 5-1/4"

  • Condition: **A 3" x 1" section of the lower left corner and a 1" x 2" section of the right rear corner are lacking. The abacus (top edge of capital) on the same architectural element has a diagonal vein crack that has been filled and there is notable wear/rubbing to the detail on the right Ionic scroll. On the second element, there is a 1" x 1" loss to the lower left corner, and the top right corner of the abacus has been repaired. Losses are present along both abacus edges, and both elements exhibit scattered veining, nicks and scratches throughout. The flat (pilaster) backs retain traces of plaster. Condition is consistent with age and use, and suggests that the elements were previously part of another architectural structure before being mounted as lamps.
