Pair of Chinese Porcelain Lidded Vases probably Tongzhi period (1862-1874), the two rectangular baluster-form vases each with a seated Buddha finial on the lid, the sides decorated with two sculpted figures of beautiful ladies, the reserves depicting idyllic scenes of palace life, unmarked, h. 21-1/2", w. 5-3/4".


  • Condition: Some firing anomalies and areas with thinning glaze where the lid sits on the rim. Wear to enamels and gilt throughout, particularly around the rim of each vessel consistent with the object's age, material and usage. Old professional restoration to finials and upper part of each lid and to reinforce the bottom of each vase. On the side of one vase a hairline fluoresces under a black light but does not show to the naked eye. One of the figures on the side of one vase has a loss to the foot.
