Pair of English Inlaid Mahogany Knife Boxes, ca. 1800, in the Hepplewhite style, the serpentine fronts with vertical line inlay and set with silverplated fittings, the slanted covers with like inlay and rosewood crossbanding, the interiors with fittings, h. 15-1/4", w. 9", d. 12".


  • Condition: In overall good condition. There is a vertical 5-1/2" x 1/2" well-executed professional repair to the veneer on the back right edge of one box and its lid. The other box has a corresponding shrinkage crack that has been filled. Some minor shrinkage cracks have also been filled along the knife slots. The inside rims of the boxes and lids have been repainted black and touched up with stain. Both boxes exhibit minor shrinkage cracks, nicks, surface scratches and accretions (some black paint residue on the side of one box). Condition is as is to be expected with age and use.
