Handsome Pair of English Hand-Painted Tole-Peinte Sauce Tureens, second quarter 19th century, the rectangular tureens with molded sides and scrolled handles, and hand-painted panels of peacocks and flowers, with flourishes of gilt decorating the remainder of the tureen, the delicately molded brass knops appear to be original, h. 10", w. 9-1/2", d. 5".

  • Condition: There are some small separations at the seams between the necks and the bodies and between the stemmed feet and bases. One of the necks shows signs of an older repair (soldering). There is a dent to one covered lid and both tureens exhibit light scattered nicks and pigment loss throughout. In overall good condition, as condition is consistent with age and utilitarian use.
