Handsome Pair of French Bronze Dore et Patine Chinoiserie Three-Light Candelabra, ca. 1900, on pierced bases draped with laurel swags, each supporting a gilt-bronze dais decorated with carefully executed details and holding a patinated bronze figure of a Chinese musician, one playing a lute and the other a pan pipe, under a raised bronze frame with laurel swags supporting the urn-form, swag-molded candle cups, h. 21-1/2", w. 17", d. 6-3/4". Provenance: M.S. Rau Antiques, New Orleans, Louisiana.

  • Condition: Two of the swags where they join the urn on the candelabrum with the figure of the lute player are detached with fixative residue and two others have been repaired with fixative. The gilt-bronze plate that supports the figure on the same candelabrum is detached from its base, because it lacks some of the small screws on the underside that hold it in place. The legs that form the Islamic arch on the other candelabrum with the figure of the pipe player are loose, but can be tightened from the bottom bolt. Otherwise, the candelabra are in good condition with excellent patina and gilding intact.
