Pair of French Consular Silver Salieres

ca. 1800, Paris, no maker's mark, second standard (.800) silver, each with a pair of oval openwork balustrade salt cellar frames with gadrooned rim and raised on four lion's paw feet, foined to a central columnar standard surmounted by an urn and faced at the base with ribboned and laurel-mantled cartouches, the frames fitted with conforming cobalt glass liners.
h. 6", w. 5-3/4", d. 3"; 11.22 total t. oz. (excluding glass liners)

  • Condition: In generally good condition. Each of the urn finials is lacking one of its small ring handles. Some of the feet are dented slightly downward. One segment of laurel mantling on one cartouche has a silver soldered repair. The liners (two of which appear to be later well-matched replacements) have a few tiny nicks and frits, but no cracks or significant chips.
