Pair of French Hand-Painted Platinum-Ground Porcelain Urns, fourth quarter 19th century, in the Neo-Grec taste, decorated with blue-painted trophies and allegories of music, with gilt snake-form handles terminating in masques, marked indistinctly with shield-form printed marks, h. 10-3/4", w. 6-3/4", d. 4-1/2".

  • Condition: In overall good condition. The soft platinum ground exhibits some scattered shallow surface scratches and imperfections. No damage to the enameled decor observed. Scattered light rubbing to the gilt. No chips or cracks to the body observed. There is a spot of gold inpainting, apparently a well-matched professional restoration on one ram's head, and a similar spot to the base of each nearby indicating a possible repair. The base of one other handle has a single line indicating a crack or repair. There is no corresponding spot on the parallel handle. Under inspection by black light, no additional damage is visible. The inpainting to the gilt does not fluoresce.
