Pair of German Silver Candlesticks

second quarter 19th century, Weissenfels, Saxony, .750 silver, in the neoclassical taste, each in the form of a Corinthian column above a triangular base with acanthus-crested scrolls and embossed shell and bouquet plaques, above a conforming scrolled plinth base, the nozzle fitted with a detachable leaf-banded bobeche.
h. 12", w. 5"; 19.06 total t. oz.

  • Condition: **The candlesticks are constructed of medium-gauge stamped sheet silver, and some of the feet are slightly misshapen from handling over the years; the damage is minor and can be easily repaired. One candlestick has a short 1/4" tear on the inside of the nozzle. Otherwise the pair are in quite good condition, with a mellow patina. No splits or repairs. Each candlestick marked (on the base) with the Saxony arms and "12 / A", as used in Weissenfels from 1815.
