Pair of Impressive Meissen Porcelain Potpourri Urns

ca. 1860-1922, German, the urns hand-painted with figures in an Arcadian glade, the scenes framed in sculpted porcelain fruit and flowers, with putti "handles" on each side and more putti on the bases, the covers with pierced scrollwork and sculpted floral "handles".

  • Condition: **ONE EXAMPLE:
    COVER: Area of pierced scrollwork at lower edge with old restoration and touch-ups to the gilt. Small area of losses to tiny flowers and vine on top. Finial with typical professional restorations throughout.
    VASE: Very scattered tiny losses to flower and leaf edges. Vertical crack at one side of lower body, not evident on the interior. Handles with restoration.

    OTHER EXAMPLE:
    COVER: Area of restoration to pierced scrollwork at one lower side. Finial with typical professional restorations throughout.
    VASE: Lower body with 1" vertical firing crack one side, 3" vertical firing crack other side. Handles with restorations.

    Both examples with well-integrated professional restorations to fruit, flowers, leaves and vines throughout. Both interiors possibly re-glazed. Both with contemporary screw bolts, washers and wingnuts. Although not a true pair, the urns are elegant when presented together.
