Pair of Italian Alabaster Figures After Antonio Canova (1757-1822), fourth quarter 19th century, "Enfant Ecrivant" (Child Writing) and "La Lecture de l'Enfant" (Child Reading), each on a spiral-reeded alabaster pedestal with carved grape leaves and an octagonal base, overall, h. 61", dia. 11".


  • Condition: Both are in "as found" condition. The figure of the boy writing has a chip to his thumb and another to his blanket. The other figure has a small nick to his knee. No sign of repairs. Both have surface yellowing from age. The pedestals have scattered nicks and dings. Both have filler along the edge of their circular tops.
