Pair of Italian Carved and Faux-Marbre Lindenwood Consoles

19th century, the serpentine tops and cove-molded bases painted to resemble Siena marble, the carved stands with monkeys playing cymbals under oak trees, decorated with gilt flourishes.
h. 34", w. 25", d. 14-1/4"

Provenance: Collection of Speed Lamkin, Monroe, Louisiana; Estate of Victor and Marie Cascio, Monroe, Louisiana.

  • Condition: **Charming and unusual lot.
Faux marbre tops and bases exhibit varying degrees of shrinkage, scratches, stains, etc. Top of one example with an old circular plug possibly where the top was reattached at some point. The molded gilt edges generally rubbed and oxidized.
The monkeys and trees exuberantly carved with lots of nice detail. A repaired limb and some leafy branches lacking on one example - one branch secured with a paper binding.
All of the above consistent with age and use.
