Pair of Italian Walnut and Fruitwood Bombe Commodes, late 18th century, each with a shaped, banded and quarter-veneered top above a conforming bombe case fitted with two drawers, each banded, the sides banded en suite, raised on molded cabriole legs headed by acanthine carving and ending in scrolled toes, h. 32-1/2", w. 39", d. 18-1/2".


  • Condition: Both cases exhibit shrinkage cracks from the base wood into the veneers, more prominent in the chest tops as well as the case sides where the backs meet the case. Various veneer losses, some patched, some filled and colored. Scattered nicks, chips and abrasions, all consistent with age and use. Drawers move freely, and case is stable and sturdy.
