Pair of Japanese Satsuma Floor Vases

first half 20th century, each of ovoid form, the exterior decorated with a dense design of figures and mon badges, centered by an eagle, with metal mounts.
h. 32-1/2", dia. 14"

  • Condition: The four handles were originally gilded, then worn, and they were over painted with bronze paint which has subsequently worn. The surface is crazed with scattered firing cracks, which is typical for satsuma and there are scattered small overpainted areas on both vases where it appears they attempted to conceal firing cracks. The damage does not appear on the interior.
