Pair of Late Victorian Sterling Silver Candelabra

  • Condition: Overall Condition: Good. The basal edge of one candelabra has some narrow horizontal splits on two sides, where it appears a compression dent has been repaired, and one central nozzle has some similar small creases around the perimeter. These are minor defects, however, and otherwise the pieces have no significant issues beyond scattered bumps and scuffs consistent with age, with some wear to the detail relief. The bases are filled with pitch or plaster (covered by replacement felt on the underside); the detachable superstructures (each with two fixed and two detachable opposing arms) also appear to be weighted. Each piece hallmarked (on the basal edge and the sleeve of the superstructure) with: 1) the sterling lion passant) ; 2) the Sheffield crown; 3) the date letter "Z" for 1892-1893 (lacking on one superstructure); and 4) the "JKB" maker's mark of James Kebberling Bembridge. The marks on the bases are almost completely rubbed, but those on the superstructure are quite clear. The detachable arms and bobeches are part-marked.
