Pair of Louis XV-Style Giltwood Bergeres, second half 20th century, each with a carved crest flanked by wings extending to closed arms, serpentine seat and cabriole legs, h. 49".
- Condition: In "as found" condition. The pieces exhibit considerable rubbing to the gilt revealing the underlying gesso and boulle, some small losses to the gesso, and scattered losses to the gilt. The upholstery is worn and stained, with a section removed from the side of one chair. One seat cushion is sagging and misshapen. Legs are tight and overall the chairs are sturdy. There is evidence of repairs to the joint of the top rails and wings, with some filler added at that point. Two of the wings show a very slight amount of play at that point, but are adequately tight to be functional. The carving at the very top of the crest rail exhibits abrasions/chips at its rear top edge.
