mid-19th century, each with a padded, slightly domed back surmounted by a foliate shell crest, joined by molded arms to the padded seat, raised above a shell-carved apron on cabriole legs headed by foliate carving, joined by an X-form stretcher and ending in scrolled toes.

  • Condition: **In overall very good condition. Both chairs exhibit considerable rubbing to the painted surfaces revealing various layers of paint and creating a handsome distressed patina. Normal shrinkage and wear.

There is some very light scattered insect damage.

Arms, backs and legs are all very tight and sturdy. One stretcher is loose at a straight-line joint of two boards at the center of the stretcher. The stretcher remains tight at the legs.

Upholstery in very good, approaching excellent, condition.

    Additional measurements: h: 35-1/2", w. 23-1/2", d. 19-1/2"; seat h. 16"
