Pair of Paris Porcelain Vases Attributed to Jacob Petit

mid-19th century, French, decorated with delicately molded scroll- and shellwork, the obverses with panels of shepherdesses in landscapes, the reverses with flowers, on a sky-blue and melon ground with flourishes of raised gilt.

Provenance: Collection of Julia Brooks and Clarke Thomas Reed, Greenville, Mississippi.

Notes: The form is a well-documented part of Jacob Petit's repertoire, with several variations in the handles and bases. A pair of closely related vases were sold in the "Maria Felix" sale at Christie's, July 17-18, 2007, lot 279.
