Pair of Patinated Metal Gas Newel Post Lamps

fourth quarter 19th century, one lamp depicting a young Bacchus and the other a water carrier, each with a putto holding a kylix, on grape- and grapevine-molded bases set with frosted and engraved glass shades, now electrified.
h. 36-1/4", w. 9-1/2", d. 9"

Provenance: The Estate of Donald J. Hurst, Waterloo, Iowa.

  • Condition: **In overall good condition. Both lamps exhibit some wear to the bronzed patination with the metal (probably spelter) showing through. There is an ~1/8" drilled hole in the back of Bacchus, possibly for a previous wiring. Both have some light scattered nicks and scratches. Both are electrified and lacking gas parts. Shades appear intact and appear to be of the period, but were not examined off the lamp, due to the location in the gallery.
