Pair of Paul Storr George IV Sterling Silver Vegetable Dishes

hallmarked London, 1824-1825, each of rounded rectangular form, the gadrooned rim with shell-and-scroll motifs at the corners and long sides, engraved on the sides with the crest and the plateau with the arms of Smith of Cropwell Butler impaling Chatfield.

Notes: The arms here are those of Samuel George Smith (1789-1865) and his wife Eugenia Chatfield (1803-1838), who were married on July 4, 1821, at Chatteris In The Isle of Ely, Cambridge.


  • Condition: **In overall good condition, with no dents, breaks or repairs noted. Light scuffs and scrapes consistent with age and use. Some wear to the details on the relief of the side and corner motifs. Beautiful armorials. Each hallmarked (on the side) with: 1) the sterling lion passant; 2) the London crowned leopard's head; 3) the date letter "i" for 1824-1825; 4) the George IV bust duty mark; and 5) the "PS" maker's mark of Paul Storr. Marks very worn. One with small (inventory?) inscription under the mark "3/01/22144".
