Pair of Rare, Labeled Gilt-Bronze and Cut Glass Argand Lamps

first quarter 19th century, London, England, decorated with engine turning, molded leaves and fluting, the fluted section below the burner labeled "Johnston Brookes & Co., Manufacturers, London", mounted with cut glass urn-form fluid tanks, now electrified, originally adjustable in height, with a molded thumb screw at the base.
h. 18-1/2", w. 9-1/2", d. 5"

  • Condition: The brass front rim is slightly bent on one lamp. Both shades have a chip to their rims, and minor chips abrading to their fitter rims as is to be expected with use. One lamp is lacking 3 strands of crystal prisms. Both lamps exhibit some wear to gilding, oxidation and surface accretions. Lamps will need to be re-wired, as the cords have been cut. There are a few small loses to prisms tips.
Please note: due to electrification the lamps are lacking burner parts.
