Pair of White-Glazed Terracotta Figures
second quarter 20th century, Italian, the figures of a Mandarin couple modeled seated on inverted paneled stands decorated with temple bells on either side of the top.

Condition: **Terracotta figures exhibit firing anomalies, including multiple firing lines to the clothing folds and creases, peppering and kiln grit throughout. Several firing lines on the female figure have been "touched up"/filled with an opaque cream-white pigment (that is close in color, but does not match). Overglaze can be removed with cleaning. On the bottom rear of the pedestal (on the female figure), there is a significant repair (7" x 11"), and a small chip to one of the corners of the pillow on which she sits.
A few firing lines on the male figure's pant leg and on the front of the pedestal have also been"touched up" with the cream-colored overglaze. Both figures are intact, but both pedestals have a few scattered chips and losses to their edges and feet. An attractive light crazing to glaze is present throughout. In overall good condition.
