Pair of William IV Bronze Argand Lamps

second quarter 19th century, English, resting on paw feet, the bases decorated with square medallions and mounted with urn-form fonts, set with appropriate blown and etched glass tulip-form shades decorated with pointed leaves.
h. 18-1/2", w. 17", d. 8"

  • Condition: **The lamps are electrified through their bases and through their arms. As such, they are lacking all of their burner parts, including shade rings and chimneys, but the fonts are intact. There is a slight space between the base and the foot mount on one lamp. The light switch on the other is slightly bent. Both lamps have minor accretions (polish residue), surface scuffs and scratches with a few "dings" to the top edges of their fonts. All glass shades exhibit tiny chips and abrading around their fitter rims, which is to be expected with age, material and use. In overall good condition.
