Partial Set of French Belle Epoque Silver Flatware

ca. 1900, by Paul Canaux & Cie., Paris, first standard (.950) silver, in the Louis XVI taste, including:
six teaspoons, l. 5-5/8"
eight place forks, l. 7-1/4"
nine place spoons, l. 7-1/4"
eleven dessert knives with silver blades and filled handles, l. 7-3/4", and
twelve place knives with steel blades and filled handles, l. 8"
monogrammed "MJV" conjoined, presented in a modern indigo baize-lined cherry-stained case, 3-1/8" x 14-5/8" x 10-3/4".

  • Condition: **In acceptable used condition. One teaspoon has disposal scars on the tip handle, though not misshaped; another shows signs of repair on the bowl and top of the handle with the tiny ball on the finial lacking. Some rounding and one or two bends on the tips of the fork tines. One of the place knives is a period replacement, and has a few disposal scars on the tip of the handle. One place knife and four dessert knives have had the blades re-seated, and the blade of another dessert knife is slightly extruded. All blades are secure and functional. Each piece marked with the French first standard "Mercury's Head" export mark and the Paul Canaux maker's mark (except the replacement knife). The case is new and in very good condition.
