Paul Storr (1771-1844) Sterling Silver Teapot

hallmarked London, 1819-1820, bowl form with gadrooned calyx and waisted collar, with everted and shaped floral scroll rim, addorsed serpent-mounted crested wooden handle, floral palmette-mounted spout and flat hinged lid with domed gadrooned center with a turned wooden toupie finial, the whole on a flat circular foot-ring.
h. 5-3/4", l. 11-3/4", dia. 6-1/2"; 26.64 t. oz. (including wooden handle)

  • Condition: **In overall good condition, with the expected scuffs and bumps consistent with age. The wooden handle is probably a later replacement, and there are some tiny reinforcements soldered to the retaining pinholes on the upper boss. Moderate wear to the high relief, most notably on the rim and the handle mounts. Hallmarked (on the underside) with: 1) the sterling lion passant; 2) the London crowned leopard's head; 3) the date letter "d" for 1819-1820; 4) the George III bust duty mark; and 5) the "PS" maker's mark of Paul Storr. The underside of the lid part-marked with the lion passant, date letter and maker's mark. Marks very good.
