Philadelphia Coin Silver Water Pitcher

mid-19th century, by George B. Sharp (ca. 1819-1904), the pear-shaped body with integral spout, molded foot ring and acanthus-crested handle, decorated with repousse acanthus and floral swags, monogrammed "DSBW".
h. 11-1/2", dia. 6-3/4", l. 9"; 35.19 t. oz.

  • Condition: **In generally good, used condition. There is a shallow 3/4" dent on the front at the widest point of the body, with a small pinpoint dent on the opposite side. There is also a 1-1/4" flattened part of the basal edge of the foot ring, though the pitcher sits level with no wobble. There are four small (5mm) areas of pitting, as well as scattered scuffs and dings consistent with age and use. There are traces of a light coating of varnish or microcrystalline wax (including some fingerprint marks on the inside of the spout), easily removable with acetone.
