Notes: The rare and important first English survey of the Mississippi by British army engineer Philip Pittman, who arrived in West Florida in 1763 and spent five years traveling and surveying the region. This copy retains all seven maps: New Orleans, Mobile, the Cascaskies (now Kaskaskia, Illinois), the Iberville River (now Bayou Manchac) and the Mississippi River from Balise (La Balize, Plaquemines Parish Louisiana) to Fort Chartres (Prairie du Rocher, Randolph county Illinois).
