  • Condition: **Exterior tortoiseshell surfaces exhibit tanning, unusual swirls, discolorations and small blemishes attributed to sun exposure over an extended period. The cover with old repairs at the corners and very small losses adjacent to the silver mounts, one of these repaired long ago with tiny silver nails. Both sides of the cover with additional later cracks (one side: 1/2" x 1/2" curved around the front corner mount; other side: 1/2" x 1" same location on the opposing side). Tiny silver nails used in attaching the domed top to one end of the cover flaked the tortoiseshell surface long ago. Repairs and cracks to corners of cover visible on its interior.
Exterior bottom and interior surfaces retain rich tortoiseshell color with the expected scuffs, scratches, dings, etc.
Interior rim with losses to the upper edges at one front corner (3/8" x 2-3/4"), opposing corner (3/8" x 3/4") and at side (3/8" x 1").
Majority of the silver mounts with some degree of crimping, shallow dents, rents and small losses.
All of the above consistent with the box's considerable age and with use.
