  • Literature: An engraving of the oval basket from Haviland's stand at the "Exhibition of the Industry of All Nations", at New York's Crystal Palace, 1853-1854 is reproduced on page 132 of Old Limoges, Haviland Porcelain Design and Decor 1845-65, by Barbara Wood and Robert Doares. The book goes on to quote a description of the stand by New York Tribune editor Horace Greely, who wrote "A Day at the Crystal Palace" and describes a "white and shaded crimson" dinner service, which appears to be the service being offered.
  • Condition: **One soup plate with small rim chip. Two salad/dessert plates with minor rim chips. Largest platter with minor chip to foot rim. One round covered vegetable dish missing 1/4"-1/8" of its foot rim. The other with a star crack to base. Both butter dishes with significant wear to gilt.
