Rare Labeled Gebruder Thonet Bentwood Chaise Longue

late 19th century, Vienna, Austria, model 7500, the caned seat flanked by arm rests, the beechwood frame on a rocking base, the back adjustable, retaining a paper Thonet label.
h. 37-1/4", w. 26", d. 88"

Provenance: From the noted Louisiana collector Dr. George Crozat, by descent through the family to the present owner.

Notes: This model was introduced in 1881.

  • Condition: **In overall good condition. The piece is solid and free of notable movement at its joints.

The caning has been replaced; no tears or breaks in it were observed.

The finish is worn and scrubbed, most notably at the arms and the perimeter edges of the "foot" area. There are areas of old dark finish beneath the arms and the underside of the frame.

    The reclining mechanism is functional.

There are a number of cracks/tears/breaks in the wood at some of the curves in the wood. All are less than 2mm deep, and none seem to go through more than the outermost layer of wood.
