Rare, Signed Paris Porcelain Corbeille

ca. 1831-1833, French, the gilt corbeille with a pierced basket decorated with molded anthemia and leaves above a border of tooled gilt, and supported on a pair of matte-gilt kneeling angels, above a platform with a tooled gilt top and a molded lion's-head masque framed with molded leaves, raised on paw feet, with a rouge-de-fer stenciled mark, "Darte, Palais Royal, No. 21.".

Literature: Darte brother Francois had a business at Palais Royale from 1831-1833, referenced in Porcelaine de Paris, by Regine de Plinval de Guillebon, p. 234.

  • Condition: **Basket with a very small shrinkage crack between two points.
    Elaborately tooled gilt in good overall condition with minor rubbing to the points of the navette-form base, its top surface and scattered around the angel hems and forward feet. Accretions around the forward hems and feet of both angel figures.
    Wings of one angel professionally reattached and well-integrated. The hem of this figure with restorations at one side of the forward foot. Foot of the other angel with minor restoration. Knees of both angels professionally touched up.
    Lower edge of the base with a very minor old firing anomaly gilded over long ago.
    Two of the paw feet indicate clean reattachment when viewed on the interior, but no apparent restoration readily visible on the exterior.
