Rare Stoneware and Bronze Japonesque Jardiniere, ca. 1882-1886, made for Haviland's Paris atelier of custom goods by Ernest Chaplet and Edouard Dammouse, on an Asian-inspired patinated bronze base, the flower-decorated, molded and incised pot signed with an impressed "HC" within a Chaplet's rosary mark on the bottom and "ED" on the side, h. 5-1/2", dia. 5-1/2". A closely related stoneware vase is in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.

  • Condition: Upon close inspection, there are possibly two little slivers gone from the edge of the flowers and a tiny loss from one tip. The leaves at the edge of the flowers appear to have been constructed of layers of pottery, which were separately made and attached, so it is possible these little aberrations are original. Black light examination revealed no chips, cracks or restoration.
