Regency Old Sheffield Plate Hot Water Urn on Stand

first quarter 19th century, the vasiform body with gadrooned calyx and steeply arched reeded handles, with reeded and scalloped shoulder, the steeply domed lid gadrooned with spherical finial, with reeded tap and carved horn arrowhead-shaped key, all above a spherical knop and waisted standard on a cavetto square base, presented on the original stand fronted by three compartments, with reeded banding and spherical feet, retaining the original billet chamber collar but the chamber and billet lacking.

  • Provenance: The Estate of Stella R. Sharp, Natchez, Mississippi.
  • Condition: **Ball finial on lid detached. Some ripples - probably a hammered-out dent - on the body just above and to the proper right of the tap. Faint bleeding to the copper on some sharp edges, the lid and the top of the handles, with some minor losses to the silver wire on the edges of the base. Not tested for water fastness. No maker's/manufacturer's or other marks.
