Scavo Glass "Cardinale"

probably designed by Ermanno Nason (Italian/Murano, b. 1928), unmarked.
h. 14-1/4", w. 3-1/2", d. 2"

Notes: Introduced in the 1950s by the great Murano glass artisans Alfredo Barbini (1912-2007) and Gino Cenedese (1907-1973), scavo is a technique that mimics the hazy or occluded surface of ancient glassware. During the heating process, a powdered mixture of carbonates, nitrates, talcs and/or silica is applied to the surface, resulting in a somewhat opaque piece with depths.
