Notes: The late 19th century saw the development of Louisiana landscape tradition lead by the French-born artist Richard Clague. At the time, pursuing a career as an artist was predominantly viewed as a male profession. Sidonia Loeb was among the first women artists, including Blanche Blanchard and Marie Seebold Molinary, who embraced painting the Louisiana landscape. Loeb studied at the New York School of Art and exhibited at the Artists' Association of New Orleans and the 1893 Chicago Columbian Exposition.


  • Condition: **In generally very good restored condition. Previously cleaned and relined. Signs of inpainting upper center (sky and clouds) and by upper right edge (sky and clouds); small scattered areas of inpainting mid-left (sky and cloud); area of inpainting lower right by edge and lower left corner. Period frame with surface marks, nicks and abrasions, losses along edges and in corners.
