Six-Piece Atelier Froment-Meurice French First Standard (.950) Silver Salt Set, third quarter 19th century, Paris, including four single (l. 2-1/2") and two double (l. 5-1/4") salts, each in the form of a naturalistic coquille shell with gilt interior and raised on coral branches, the double salts with a central handle of a putto astride a dolphin, each engraved on the underside "Froment Meurice", 29.12 total t. oz.

  • Condition: The figural putto on both of the double salts has been broken off; both have been reattached with lead solder, but one has been again broken off and is now detached but present. The retaining nuts on the single salts are loose but attached. The interior gilding is lightly worn, but the branch legs show traces that they, too, were once gilded. Each piece marked with the French First Standard "Minerva" head and engraved on the legs "Froment Meurice".
