  • Literature: A similar example is illustrated in The Magazine Antiques, April 1991, page 736, from the Sebastian Louis Kleinpeter House Historical Collection, Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
  • Notes: This bed relates to a known school of Creole four-post beds, including one from the Jacques Dupre house, another from Bocage Plantation, one at Parlange Plantation, and two at Houmas House.
  • Condition: **In "as found" condition. Scattered scuffs and dings consistent with age and use. Appears to retain its original finish. Could benefit from light polishing and waxing. There is some dryness around the bottoms of the posts along with minor small chips to the feet. Some of the wooden plugs which hold the embedded bolt nuts in place are missing from the rails. There is a little looseness to the rails as we did not have the proper wrench size to tighten the bolts completely.

NOTE: Although the inside length is 76", the posts will interfere with a standard full-size box spring and mattress at each corner. Some modification to the box spring and mattress would be needed at the corners.
