Spanish Colonial Silver Charger

late 18th century, South American, of serpentine-lobed circular form with molded rim and recessed plateau.

Provenance: Descended in the family of John Gilman D'Arcy Paul, Baltimore, Maryland.


  • Condition: **A rustic piece with all the indicators of hand-raising and finishing, with assorted scuffs, scrapes (including shallow knife marks) and pinpoint dings, but no large dents. (Two areas of minute shallow dents may represent larger dents that have been hammered out, but might also be original planishing marks.) There is a 3/8" crack across the molded rim which has been repaired with lead solder. Marked (on the rim, twice) with a crown.
