Stieff "Colonial Williamsburg" Sterling Silver Coffeepot, 1939-1948, Baltimore, Maryland, of "lighthouse" form with domed lid, vasiform finial, crested ebonized wood handle and conical right-angle spout, h. 11-1/2", l. 7-1/2", dia. 4-3/8", 34.36 t. oz. (including wooden handle). In 1939, Colonial Williamsburg contracted Stieff to make a line of high-quality reproduction American Colonial silverware. Introduced in a luxurious catalogue in 1940, this coffeepot appears on page ten, with a notation that it is after a 1715 piece by New York Silversmith Charles Le Roux (1689-1763) - presumably the near-identical example conserved in the Yale University collection. The 1940 price was $90, equivalent to about $1,500 today.
