late 19th century, each with a padded rectangular back surmounted by a ribboned foliate carving, the padded seat above a dentillated apron, raised on fluted tapering circular legs ending in peg feet.

Literature: An identical suite of chairs is illustrated in Architectural Digest, Nov. 1980, pp. 106-107, as part of a featured article on a New Orleans mansion in the French Quarter decorated by the interior designer Valerian Rybar.


  • Condition: **In overall very good condition. All chairs are very solid and sturdy, exhibiting no movement at the joint of the legs and aprons.

    The polychromed surfaces are rubbed and worn by design.

    The upholstery is tight and firm. The show covers exhibit a number of surface scratches and small spots of finish loss.
