Suite of Four William IV Mahogany Hall Chairs, second quarter 19th century, each with a rounded crest above a waisted back with scroll carvings, centering a shield panel with a polychrome rampant lion, the wooden seat raised on spiral-ribbed circular legs ending in peg feet, h. 33".

  • Condition: In overall very good condition. The surfaces have been polished and waxed, and the pieces exhibit indications of minor past professional restorations. All have had additional dowels or screws added where the back joins the seat rail. All repairs are filled or plugged to hide the work. All legs are securely joined to seat rails, in ready-to-use condition. Chair A: There is a tight shrinkage crack extending down about 8" from the top of the back. Chair B: No issues noted. Chair C: There is a glued split to the wing at the base of the back. Chair D: One of the scroll tips has been broken off and re-glued. The seat exhibits two tight horizontal cracks, one a shrinkage crack and one a seam, both now stabilized and tight at the joints.
