fourth quarter 19th century, with an inlaid and ebonized case decorated with rosewood panels, the top with inlaid sprays of flowers and the sides mounted with bronze handles, the inside cover retaining its original "airs" card, plays eight tunes on a single comb, and six bells with butterfly hammers, and two drums.
h. 10-1/2", w. 25-1/2", d. 12"

Provenance: Successions of Lois Chalona Hawkins and H. Lloyd Hawkins, Jr., New Orleans, Louisiana.

  • Condition: **In "as found" condition. Some of the "bee" hammers need adjusting so they hit properly. No broken teeth on the comb. It could require some cleaning as it tends to play sluggish. Minor scuffs to the finish on the case.
