Thirteen Mahogany Chippendale Dining Chairs

  • Condition: All are in very good structural condition. They are tight and sturdy. Most of the original glue blocks are intact to the period chairs. The seven period chairs are constructed of dense "old growth" mahogany and are very heavy. The six newer chairs are also mahogany but not as dense and heavy. They appear to be mid-20th century. There is indication that the period chairs once had mortised corner brackets under the seat frame at the front legs. Some of them have had professional spliced repairs to the rear legs. The period chairs demonstrate mortised and pegged construction to the joints. The finish on the old chairs is rich and slightly darker than the six newer chairs. All have leather-covered slip seats.
