Three Chinese Agate Carvings, late Qing period (1644-1911)/early Republic period (1912-1949), including a foo dog carved in white agate with russet inclusions, h. 4", a whitish/reddish-brown snuff bottle carved with birds and lotus flowers on a pierced wooden stand, bottle, h. 2-1/2", and a goldfish carved of primarily orange agate, on a pierced wooden stand, fish, h. 1-3/4", l. 3-1/4".


  • Condition: All with reddish-brown and translucent white inclusions. Natural anomalies to the stone are visible on each item in this group. Goldfish has a few naturally-occurring internal pressure cracks including one across the body and the other on the tail. No chips or evidence of restoration. Foo dog has some resin-like filler in a few areas, including a spot on the shoulder, an area under the tail and a 1-1/2" section on the belly. Stone has a few indentations, particularly around the hind legs as well as a few internal pressure lines. The snuff bottle has had the stopper and spoon reattached. Overall wear is consistent with age and material.
