Tortoiseshell-Inlaid Cabinet on Stand, fourth quarter 17th century and later, Antwerp School, the facade decorated with ebonized and molded drawer fronts with tortoiseshell panels outlined in stringing, the sides and top veneered with fruitwood, and pierced brass mounts decorating the corners, the velvet-lined drawers fitted for jewels, on a later inlaid mahogany stand, h. 45-1/4", w. 23-1/4", d. 12-1/2".


  • Condition: In good restored condition, exhibiting normal losses, restorations, shrinkage and wear creating an attractive patina. There are a number of losses to string inlay, some filled, others not. There is a piece of bubbled veneer on the crossbanding on the perimeter of the top, and a like piece on one side. Several small veneer losses and past repairs. The case and base both appear to be solid and stable. Brass lock escutcheons are loose. There are two keys present, which can make the existing locks function. The upper four drawers retain antique silk velvet linings.
